Unless your name is a Smith or a Jones, there is a good chance that you have had your name mispronounced at some point in your life. For our guest Irma Herrera, mispronounced names carry a much deeper meaning. With a 30-year background in civil rights law, Irma has gotten a firsthand view of the cultural, social and societal struggles in America, and the impacts those struggles have had on the changing world. Her experiences led her to write and perform her own one-woman show, “Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name,” which shines a light, and some shade, on the assumptions around names, where they come from, and what they mean. You can catch her next show on Sunday, October 13th at 7pm at the Marin Center’s Showcase Theater.
